Those who work these jobs more likely to get hurt — or worse
Work injuries happen every day in the United States. No field of employment is immune, though, and some see more work-related injuries and fatalities than others. According to a recently published article, those who work the following jobs in Illinois or elsewhere are more likely to suffer significant or fatal injuries.
Logging workers are believed to have the most dangerous job in the United States. In 2018, there were 56 fatal injuries and over 1,000 nonfatal injuries reported in this field of employment. Fishing workers come in second place with 30 fatal injuries reported in 2018. Pilots/flight engineers claim the third most dangerous, with a fatal injury rate of nearly 60 per every 100,000 workers in 2018. Construction workers, particularly roofers, come in fourth place, while sanitation workers round out the top five most dangerous jobs in America.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2018, well over 5,000 people lost their lives in work-related accidents. Numerous more suffered nonfatal injuries, which required them to take time off work for recovery or resulted in disability. Sadly, those who work some of the most dangerous jobs in the United States are not highly compensated. So, when work-related accidents happen, they or — in the event of fatality — their surviving family members often end up struggling financially.
Thankfully, workers’ compensation benefits can help employees or their family members pick up the pieces following work-related accidents. Achieving maximum relief is not necessarily easy to do, though. Illinois residents who work some of the most dangerous jobs in America, or their surviving family members, can turn to legal counsel for assistance, seeking maximum relief for their losses.
