Fatal Illinois car accident kills 63-year-old woman
Early last week, a fatal car accident occurred in Colfax, Illinois, and the investigation into which driver was responsible for the accident is still underway. A fertilizer truck driven by a 64-year-old man reportedly hit a 63-year-old woman’s car. The woman died from her injuries in the car accident, and due to the ongoing investigation, no charges have yet been filed.
The woman was driving on Searle Drive at about 4:34 p.m. as she approached an intersection. While driving through the intersection, the northbound fertilizer truck hit her car on the driver’s side. The impact was so great that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man claims that the woman appeared to stop at the intersection, but he does not think that she looked in his direction before continuing. Officials will likely investigate whether this statement has any validity. An autopsy report states that the woman died of blunt force trauma to the neck and chest, and the report did not mention any alcohol being in her system. However, the police report does not state whether or not the man was given a blood-alcohol content test.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, if the man is found to be responsible for the accident, he could face criminal charges for his actions. Regardless of whether he is found to be criminally responsible, the woman’s family may want to file personal injury claims against the male driver. If the claim is successful, the family could be compensated for funeral costs as well as the pain and suffering they have endured because of the Illinois fatal car accident.
