Alleged drunk driving accident leads to criminal charges

A recent collision in Illinois is evidence of how dangerous motor vehicle travel can be. There were two cars involved in a crash that resulted in a fatality. A passenger in one of the vehicles also suffered injuries in the collision. Police say evidence shows this may have been a drunk driving accident.

A 42-year-old man was behind the wheel of a vehicle that careened out of its lane and into oncoming traffic. The man's vehicle hit a car that was being driven at the time by a 41-year-old man. Sadly, he did not survive the injuries he suffered upon impact in the crash.

A passenger in the vehicle that was struck was transported to a local hospital for emergency care in the aftermath of the collision. The man who was driving the wrong-way car was recently brought into court for a hearing. He is facing numerous criminal charges, including aggravated driving under influence of alcohol and aggravated homicide.

When a person dies in an Illinois drunk driving accident, his or her family members often have a difficult time moving on in life due to the emotional trauma associated with their loss. While there is no way to compensate a grieving loved one for a family member's death, it is often possible to file a wrongful death claim in court to seek restitution when a fatality occurred because of another driver's negligence or reckless conduct. A collision victim who survives his or her injuries may file a similar legal claim in a civil court as well.
