As the warmer months arrive in Illinois, more and more residents will use motorcycles as a source of transportation. Motorcycles are economical and are a fun and enjoyable way to get around. However, traveling by motorcycle can also be incredibly dangerous, especially on crowded city streets. Since motorcycles have a smaller profile, they can sometimes be difficult for other drivers to see. A recent tragic motorcycle crash in Chicago claimed the life of a motorcyclist.
The accident happened during the afternoon hours in Avalon Park on the 1200 block of East 83rd Street. According to reports, the driver of a minivan attempted to make a left turn into a driveway. Reportedly, the van pulled into the path of a oncoming motorcycle, causing a collision.
Reports said the motorcyclists suffered severe injuries in the crash and was rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said. According to police, the driver of the van was not injured but was cited for failing to yield to the right of way.
Unfortunately, motorcyclists face unique dangers that are not present to those in passenger vehicles. Since motorcyclists are exposed and minimally protected, traffic accidents involving motorcycles have a much higher chance of being serious or fatal. Those in Illinois who have suffered injuries or the loss of a loved one in a motorcycle crash could benefit by seeking the services of a legal representative. A successfully litigated lawsuit could provide much-needed compensation to help victims and families get through this terrible experience.
