Illinois man killed, wife injured in violent interstate crash

| Jun 26, 2019 | Car Accidents

It takes just a short while to drive southeast of Edwardsville to get to Aviston. The small Clinton County village is today mourning the loss of one of its residents.

According to news reports, the 52-year-old man was killed in a violent three-vehicle interstate crash in Alabama.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers spokesperson said the Illinois man was driving a 2015 Chevy pick-up truck when it was struck at about 6:40 in the morning by a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 38-year-old Alabama man. The Jeep then slammed into an ambulance traveling on the interstate, the news report said.

Both the Alabama man and Illinois man’s wife were taken to a nearby hospital after the crash. Her medical condition was not included in the report.

The ambulance crew members were uninjured and able to free themselves from the wreckage and “immediately began providing patient care to other victims.”

It is not known why the Alabama man’s vehicle hit the Illinois man’s vehicle. An investigation into the cause of the wreck has been launched.

While we don’t know the cause of this tragedy, we know that in many similar highway crashes, distraction and excess speed often play significant roles. And of course, there are also factors such as impairment for investigators to consider and examine.

Families of crash victims and injury victims themselves can fight for justice with representation by an attorney experienced in personal injury and wrongful death litigation. Contact the Johnston Law Offices of Edwardsville to discuss your case.
