Top mistakes people make when pursuing a personal injury claim

When you are seeking compensation for a personal injury, it is important to cross your t's and dot your i's. After all, the slightest misstep could have a profound effect on your case.

In fact, it could be that you are about to make what could be a costly error. Read on to find out about some common mistakes people make.

Posting on social media

In general, it is a good idea to limit your social media use or to refrain from it altogether. An innocent, happy post such as, "I had a great day yesterday! The pain from the car crash where the other driver was speeding was almost nonexistent," could be taken as evidence that your injury is not as serious as you have made it seem.

A similar principle applies if you (or someone else) posts pictures of you apparently golfing or bicycling when you should not be able to do these things. Often, there is a reasonable explanation such as it was an old picture, or you wanted to see if you could actually ride the bicycle for a little bit. However, these explanations are not always accepted.

Downplaying the severity of injuries and their effect

Another mistake is one that people make with good intentions. For example, suppose your parents worry a lot, so you are in the habit of downplaying your injuries and stresses to them. However, this could backfire if word was to get out that your mother and father are telling people you are doing well and able to move just like before.

Could it also be possible that you wish you were not as badly injured as you are? Of course. It is natural for people to try to do activities a doctor has told them they should not, but doing that could possibly cause your injury to worsen. It could also lead people to think you cannot be that badly injured.
