Passenger injured in recent auto accident involving a semi

Police in Illinois are currently investigating the cause of an accident between a semi-trailer and a passenger vehicle. The driver of the car is actually believed to be responsible for this auto accident. The injured passenger may be entitled to seek compensation for his or her losses through legal means.

According to a recent news report, a 20-year-old male was driving northbound on I-57 in Jefferson County when his vehicle drifted into a semi-trailer that was in occupying the middle lane. The car hit the tires of the trailer and then went off the roadway and into the median. The driver and one of his passengers -- only described as a 17-year-old -- suffered injuries in the wreck. Both were transported to an area hospital for care. The truck driver was unharmed in the event.

Illinois State Police believe that the driver was distracted by his GPS, causing him to leave his lane of traffic. This individual is facing several charges for the incident, including driving on a suspended license, failure to reduce speed and improper usage of a lane. He has been released on bond. Court dates regarding this matter have not been reported.

When an auto accident results in a passenger suffering an injury, according to the laws of Illinois the victim may have legal recourse. In this case, a personal injury claim may be filed against the driver in an effort for the victim to recoup his or her losses. Negligence will have to be established to the satisfaction of the court in order for litigation to be successful. If this can be accomplished, maximum compensation may be awarded.
