Hit-and-run car accident in Illinois results in critical injuries

A hit-and-run accident can, understandably, have severe physical consequences to the victims involved. A recent car accident involving pedestrians in Illinois has left three people critically injured and police looking for the driver responsible. The victims, an elderly couple and their son, were all visiting family in the Chicago area for the holidays.

The victims were in the process of getting into their vehicle when they were struck by a car. The father and son, ages 68 and 28, were taken to one area hospital, while the mother, who was in her 70s, was taken to another. All sustained what are considered to be critical injuries.

The driver believed responsible for this incident is also reported to have hit a minivan while leaving the scene of the pedestrian accident. The van driver was apparently uninjured in the crash. Local authorities quickly released a description of the car and soon after had a person of interest in custody for questioning.

A car accident that results in severe injury to its victims can lead to costly medical bills, time off work for necessary rehabilitation and recovery and a host of other issues. The physical, emotional and financial stress can put a huge strain on a family. When the driver deemed responsible for this incident is found, aside from criminal charges they may face, the victims may also choose to pursue personal injury claims against them. An Illinois civil court -- if liability is established -- could grant the victims monetary compensation to help ease the financial strain and move forward in their recovery.
