3 die in Illinois motorcycle crash with dump truck

| Sep 2, 2013 | Motorcycle Accidents

It should come as no surprise that those driving larger vehicles should take more caution on the road because their larger size could potentially cause a lot of damage if a wreck occurs. It is also common knowledge that those who drive motorcycles should take more caution because, since the driver is in a small, not enclosed vehicle, the driver can be seriously injured if involved in a crash, regardless of the size of the other vehicle. Unfortunately, three people suffered fatal injuries involving an Illinois motorcycle crash with a dump truck earlier this week.

Two people, a 43-year-old male and a 35-year-old female, riding on a motorcycle were traveling south on Epworth Road. A 69-year-old male was driving a dump truck north on the other side of the road when he crossed over the center line and struck the motorcycle head-on. After the impact, the dump truck crashed into a tree on the side of the road.

The driver of the dump truck was pronounced dead at the scene. It is not stated in the report if the two on the motorcycle were also pronounced dead at the scene or later at an area hospital; regardless, all three persons involved were killed. Exactly what caused the dump truck driver to cross the center line and hit the motorcycle is unclear at this time.

Police continue to invest the motorcycle crash. If the dump truck driver is indeed found to be at fault, then the families of the two motorcyclists could be able to file legal claims against the estate of the dump truck driver including possibly wrongful death claims. Consulting with Illinois professionals could help the families of the motorcyclists to explore their legal options in this circumstance.
