Harvard dean announces campaign against distracted driving

We frequently discuss distracted driving in this Edwardsville Motor Vehicle Accidents Law Blog. This is because texting, cellphone use and a number of other distractions are causes of a great number of serious or fatal car accidents in Illinois and throughout the country everyday. Despite the widely known critical dangers of distracted driving, many drivers in our area continue to give into distractions every time they get into their cars. The Harvard School of Public Health's associate dean is trying to change that.

Is it time to reduce the drunk driving limit?

Edwardsville residents may have heard that last week the National Transportation Safety Board recommended lowering the legal blood-alcohol content limit for driving to .05 percent. Currently, all states have a .08 percent limit. The reduced BAC was just one of several recommendations the NTSB issued in an effort to decrease the number of drunk driving accidents.

Driver sentenced after fatal motorcycle accident in Alton

The criminal case stemming from a tragic car vs. motorcycle accident that occurred in Alton, Illinois, two years ago came to a close this week. The driver of the car that was involved in this fatal crash had already pleaded guilty to reckless homicide charges, and on Tuesday he was sentenced to three years in prison.

Survey finds almost 25 percent of teens drink and drive

Many parents of teenagers in Edwardsville worry about their teens getting behind the wheel. Car accident rates are high for these young drivers, and many parents worry about whether their children have the experience and sense of responsibility that it takes to be as safe as possible out on the roads. According to a recent survey, parents should also be very concerned about whether their children know well enough not to drink and drive.
