Alleged drunk driver causes personal injury in rear-end crash

Illinois drivers who take to the busy roads while they are under the influence of alcohol threaten not only their own lives but also the lives of other motorists and pedestrians. It is not uncommon for drivers to think they are quite capable of driving despite having consumed alcohol. However, alcohol can cause drowsiness and compromise a driver’s perception of distance — often leading to another party’s injury.

One such accident occurred in Oswego Township on a recent Wednesday morning. A sheriff’s report indicates that a 30-year-old man was northbound on Route 25 when he smashed into the rear of another vehicle. The impact reportedly caused this second car to roll over after the 44-year-old driver lost control.

The injured driver of the second vehicle was rushed to a hospital with injuries of unknown severity. Although the driver who is believed to have caused this crash fled the scene of the accident, deputies located him within a short time. He was suspected to have been intoxicated at the time of the collision, and he was arrested and charged with DUI and hit-and-run, along with failure to slow down to avoid a collision.

While this driver will have to face the wrath of the law, the injured victim will likely be facing the high costs of hospitalization and medical treatment. Fortunately, financial relief may be pursued. A personal injury claim may be filed in an Illinois civil court, and if negligence is established, the court will consider entering a monetary judgment for documented financial losses and other losses, such as pain and suffering, loss of income, and more.
